Allusions Submission Guidelines: Allusions welcomes creative writing and visual art submissions from Indiana State University Undergraduate and Graduate students. The submissions period is open during the fall semester from October 1st through 11:59 pm on Friday of finals week.  

Students with work included in Allusions are eligible for various awards and prizes and will be invited to participate in a reading and launch party to celebrate the journal’s publication. Send us your best creative work and be part of Indiana State University’s award-winning fine arts journal!   We invite submissions in the following categories:  

  • Poetry
  • Fiction
  • Creative Nonfiction
  • Drama 
  • Hybrid-Genre Texts
  • Visual Art (2D and 3D Art)

Submission: You can submit work in more than one genre, but you are limited to submitting three pieces total. Collaborative work is welcomed and is considered separately from your individually authored work.  

Please submit all pieces separately through Submittable as attachments. 

Make sure the file name for your attachment is the same as the title of your piece. Don't forget to include a title for your visual art submissions.  

All creative writing submissions must be Microsoft Word Documents (.doc or .docx). Submissions must be be in 12 pt. Times New Roman font. Please note: Poetry submissions with long lines may need to be altered to fit the page. 

2D and 3D Art may be submitted in jpg, tiff, or PDF format. Please note the artistic medium of your piece in the submission form. 

You may only submit your own original work. Simultaneous submissions are accepted. Please notify us immediately if your submission is accepted for publication elsewhere and withdraw your submission though our online submission manager. 

You’ll hear back from the Allusions editorial team about your submission(s) in February and this year’s issue will be published in April.
