Ongoing climate and ecological crises define our moment in the Anthropocene, affecting every human community and biological niche on planet Earth. Human civilization is singularly responsible for the losses we witness and endure. This decisive decade is poised on a razor’s edge between assurance of future chaos defined by mass suffering and the prospect of survival with profound healing. Thus, Plane Tree invites contributions of poetry, fiction, and creative nonfiction exploring the human relationship with Nature defined by crisis, loss, mourning—and hope. While this issue’s theme is wide-reaching, contributions should privilege the particular and artful over the polemical. Accepted work will appear in our Fall 2023 digital issue.
Plane Tree is a biannual online journal based at Indiana State University and run by faculty and students in creative writing. We accept .doc, .docx, or .rtf attachment to planetreejournal at gmail dot com. We can only accept submissions by email. Please share with us 3-5 poems or prose works (fiction or creative nonfiction) of no more than 3000 words. Also include a brief bio of 100 words or fewer with submissions.
